Focus on getting to know the potential owners. This is as much about the people as it is about the animals. Remember that animals and humans enrich each others’ lives. So when potential owners come in for a visit, keep in mind:

• Build mutual trust with them
• Be transparent about costs, your mission/values, expectations of owners, and needs of animals
• Questions are a two-way street. Inquire about their intentions in adopting and allow them to ask any burning questions that come to mind.
